The need
Modern secondary and tertiary education is increasingly conducted in English. As a result, world-wide, large numbers of people are being educated in a language other than the one they speak at home.
In such circumstances one of the greatest problems for both learning and teaching is the mismatch between linguistic levels that the readers of school text books need in order to understand them, and their actual ability.
We specialize in helping authors and publishers of English-medium texts that are intended for use with students whose first language is not English.

The language of school books published in English --even English language text books-- is often too hard for the students who use them.

We offer a means of focussing on text with a view to ensuring that it will match typical student ability levels.
We can give a clear and complete account of the vocabulary used in any educational text. We can show how that compares with the vocabulary taught to students up to the point where they are expected to use that text.
We can conduct a thorough probe of idiom and grammatical structure, and give a fair estimate of how much difficulty readers will face in having to interpret these.
We can adjust and rewrite text where necessary. The overall aim of any such rewrite would be to produce text in fluent, authentic natural English that carries, without distortion of either the language or the subject matter, the message of the original. The result intended is not 'simplified' English, but good plain honest readable --and, for the user, surprisingly comprehensible-- English.
